ABOUT PICNIC ON THE HEMBRUG
I feel lucky and blessed to live and work in my studio on the Hembrug. Industrial, raw, lush green and just a few minutes from the water. The Hembrug terrain is one of the most important industrial heritage sites in the Netherlands, with monumental factory buildings, bunkers, shooting ranges and the Schokbos. It is precisely this mix of history, architecture and greenery that gives the place its raw, distinctive character. Things are changing, and right now is the perfect moment to share this place. Picnicking here means space, air, materials and history. No frills. No fuss. Just a beautiful, well-cared-for moment.

Group picnics can be arranged at the Gunpowderstudio, on the Hembrug terrain or at another location of your choice.

HOW IT WORKS
Picnic spots
You can choose a picnic spot at the Hembrug terrain, a map with different options is sent after reservation.
The Hembrug terrain is 12 kilometers away from Amsterdam by car and 9 kilometers by bike.
Respect for our neighbours
We value our neighbours and want everyone to feel comfortable. That is why we keep our neighbours’ terraces clear and leave the surroundings as we found them.
When it rains
The weather can always surprise you. If it rains, you can picnic under the roof of the Museum of Humanity, a special experience in itself.
This also depends on the opening hours of the museum so please inform before your visit.
Choose a picnic
Choose the picnic that suits your moment: Basic Lightweight, Classic or Deluxe. Each option has its own style and contents, from light and simple to a more extensive picnic with a drinks-and-bites feel.
Select a date and time
Then select a day and time that works for you. You can easily reserve your picnic for a suitable moment. That way, you know exactly when your picnic will be ready.
Add extra's
Make your picnic complete with any extras during booking. This lets you shape your moment in a way that suits your wishes.
Ordering something with alcohol? You may be asked to show ID.
Book your picnic
Complete your reservation and confirm your booking. A deposit for the bag and tableware is also charged when booking. You receive it back when you return the set, helping us make the no-waste approach possible together.
Pick up, enjoy & return
Pick up your picnic and choose one of the designated picnic spots on the Hembrug terrain. Enjoy your moment, and if it rains, you can go under the roof of the Museum of Humanity. Afterwards, return the bag and tableware so everything stays clean and reusable.
